49ers vs. Chiefs: Top 5 performances from preseason Week 3
No. 2: Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley
While there have been plenty of ups and downs for the 49ers defensive backfield this preseason (and let’s face it, the last few years), one under-the-radar player who has acquitted himself nicely so far is second year cornerback Emmanuel Moseley.
Moseley has mostly featured as an outside cornerback option, although defensive coordinator Robert Saleh noted he could also feature in the slot, and finished the game in Kansas City with two tackles and two passes defended.
Mostly Moseley has shown an ability to stick close to his man and use the boundary to help him keep his receivers under control. And while it certainly hasn’t been perfect, Moseley has proved to be a solid potential depth piece.
Even though he doesn’t quite fit the 49ers mold for outside cornerbacks (at 5-foot-11, he’s a little short of the mark there), he’s got a good build, which allows himself to maintain physicality against taller receivers.
It’s difficult to say if Moseley has outplayed the other potential starting outside corner options for the 49ers, but the former Tennessee Volunteer has given himself a good chance to make the roster, even if it’s simply as a backup as both an outside and slot cornerback.
