Stock down: D.J. Reed

D.J. Reed is one of the most promising young defenders on the 49ers roster, but performances like these won’t help him get the role of the starting nickel corner role.

Reed was given important snaps versus the first-team Broncos offense, and had the chance to impress. Unfortunately for the talented young defensive back, he was not very impressive.

Reed struggled against the Broncos starters, giving up a defensive pass interference and was struggling in coverage a lot.

To his credit, Reed did step it up against the backups, but he was unable to do that when it counted.

Reed still has time to improve his stock, but missed a golden opportunity here to put his name in with the starters.
