No. 4: Cornerback Tim Harris

The 49ers may opt to go with some of their more experienced cornerbacks in 2019 and rely less on their final selection of this year’s NFL Draft, Virginia’s Tim Harris.

Harris, who dealt with plenty of injuries during his college tenure, has had some moments of his own during training camp. But these have been relatively few and far between, meaning his efforts during the preseason will go a long way in determining whether or not San Francisco wants to use a roster spot on him.

And with third-year corner Ahkello Witherspoon performing well enough in camp, along with Jason Verrett slowly being worked into the fray (despite a recent injury), the Niners have good reason to focus less on a player like Harris.

Remember, the 49ers secondary was atrocious last year. And while a revamped defensive line and pass rush should do some good, Harris would have to vastly outperform a number of the other depth options behind Witherspoon and Verrett to stand a chance.

So far, that hasn’t quite been the case, making the sixth-round rookie a prime candidate to be named to the practice squad in year one of his career.
