No. 4: The 49ers Running Game Has Yet to Get Going

It’s supposed to be a strength this offseason, especially after the 49ers added Tevin Coleman in free agency.

So far, though, the Niners rushing attack has been pretty stagnant. Aside from a handful of long carries, including Coleman and fellow tailback Matt Breida, San Francisco’s runners haven’t had a lot to brag about.

Perhaps it has to do a lot with that beefed-up defensive line. Breida sure thought so.

“Going against them right now, it’s hard to even run the ball,” Breida said of the D-line, via NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco. “That just gets us excited because we know how good the defense can be this year.”

On one hand, it’s great the 49ers have been effective stuffing the run so far. That’s important, particularly in what looks to be a run-heavy NFC West this season.

At the same time, though, one would hope the offense’s ground attack picks up some momentum between now and Week 1.
