No. 1: Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo Looks a Bit Rusty

Jimmy Garoppolo will be a prime focal point all training camp, and for good reason. So much of the 49ers’ hopes this year hinge on his abilities of being a key playmaker.

On day one of camp, Garoppolo was 6-of-8 and managed some quality completions. The following day, however, he was just 5-of-13. Jimmy G bounced back nicely on day three, even scrambling on a rush and showing no signs of setback after tearing his ACL last year.

On Tuesday, though, Garoppolo was about as shaky as it could get. He went 6-of-13 during practices, although he hasn’t been totally helped by drops on his bad days.

Garoppolo has managed to complete some deep passes, including a nice completion to Richie James:

Still, consistency is what most would like to see out of Garoppolo. So far, it hasn’t happened.

But it’s far too soon to panic. Remember, Garoppolo is working on his first field drills and duties in full-team action since last season when he suffered his knee injury. He was mostly limited during OTAs, and there’s inevitably going to be some rust.

If this is the conversation piece by the end of San Francisco’s next four-practice set, it might be time to worry a slight bit. Right now, it’s premature.
