49ers 2019 training camp: 5 players who are impressing early
By Peter Panacy
No. 2: EDGE Nick Bosa
It seemed pretty unfortunate the Niners’ top pick from this year’s draft, EDGE Nick Bosa, wasn’t going to see the majority of OTAs and minicamp, as he dealt with a minor hamstring injury.
Yet Bosa sure seemed to make a notable impression early in training camp.
Bosa was one of those key defensive line additions the Niners made during the offseason. Along with fellow EDGE Dee Ford, Bosa is expected to combine with players like Solomon Thomas and DeForest Buckner to make San Francisco’s D-line one of, if not the deepest in the league entering 2019.
There will be a slight uptick in the learning curve once the pads come on — something defensive coordinator Robert Saleh pointed out to the media on Saturday.
“I guess he got Joe a couple of times today but Joe is a seasoned vet and he’s going to find out very quickly how O-linemen adjust in this league tomorrow when Joe stalemates him,” Saleh said. “I know it’s exciting for him, but he’s still just a bobblehead running around until we get pads on.”
Still, this is easily the best news, defensively, the 49ers could have hoped for entering training camp.
