No. 3: Wide Receiver Shawn Poindexter

If you’re asking “Who is Shawn Poindexter?,” here you go.

Another 2019 undrafted free agent, the former Arizona wide receiver also has a long way to go to stand a chance making the 49ers’ 53-man roster this season.

Given his intangibles, though, placement on San Francisco’s practice squad is a real possibility. And there’s a good chance the Niners want to stash him there for further development.

A key reason why is Poindexter’s size. At 6-foot-5 and 218 pounds, Poindexter is already the tallest wide receiver on the 49ers roster.

While Kyle Shanahan doesn’t always prize size for his wideouts, even down in the red zone where the Niners finished dead last in red-zone touchdown efficiency in 2018, Poindexter’s raw skill set might still be worth evaluating and developing over time.

Poindexter was Arizona’s leading yards getter for Arizona last season, putting up 759 yards. He also had 11 touchdowns, too, meaning he’s used to being that kind of weapon.

If San Francisco can develop him into something of a red-zone gem, it will be worthwhile.
