Most beloved San Francisco 49ers in franchise history: 4. Frank Gore

If you were to ask 49ers fans who the No. 1 most-adored player in franchise history who happened to be still playing, the answer would undoubtedly be Frank Gore.

Gore, the Niners’ all-time leading rusher, saw his tenure with San Francisco come to a close after the 2014 NFL season. Yet Gore still churns out yardage, and he’ll probably end up retiring when he’s in his 60s. Maybe later.

Either way, fans have to admit they shed a few tears of happiness when Gore announced his plans to eventually retire with the 49ers.

Whenever that is, of course. And it probably won’t happen anytime soon. Gore has a number of records to reach, after all.

Gore’s competitive drive, especially when he was the team’s biggest weapon during some down years, endeared him to fans. Teammates, too, especially Joe Staley:
