No. 2: Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

It’s good to know quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo appears to be fully recovered from his disastrous 2018 ACL tear, which limited him to a mere three games last season.

Garoppolo isn’t quite cleared to participate in full 11-on-11 drills yet. But he certainly made the most of his opportunities during OTAs and looked good in the process.

“I think every throw is doable now,” Garoppolo told the media. And by most accounts, it appears the quarterback is correct.

During one session, Garoppolo threaded a pass into the waiting arms of Jordan Matthews, who was being covered by veteran cornerback Richard Sherman.

“He threaded one kind of right by my fingertip,” Sherman told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan. “It was a play that I kind of just tried to jump. … And he threw a ball where if the receiver doesn’t get it, there’s no way I can get, but if he throws it anywhere else, I can take it.

“It was just a great ball and a great throw from him. It was just exactly what you want to see from your quarterback, moving on in his rehab, and where he is in the process. To be only in day two and be able to make those throws already is a great compliment.”

Garoppolo regularly made tough throws and continued a rapport with Matthews, along with the next player on this list of OTA standouts, wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
