42. . Safety. LSU. Grant Delpit. 13. player

It’s probably not likely LSU safety Grant Delpit falls this far in the 2020 NFL Draft. But we are a 49ers site, and this is our mock draft.

At any rate, the Niners would be wise to address their safety spot after the upcoming season after essentially punting on the chance to grab now-Baltimore Ravens All-Pro safety in 2019. Instead, the 49ers are banking on oft-injured defensive back Jimmie Ward — he’s currently out with a broken collarbone — and third-year pro Adrian Colbert to hold down the vital free safety spot.

Neither scenario seems ideal.

Remember that part about LSU producing excellent defensive backs? Well, Delpit is looking to be the next in line for that trend.

Granted, Delpit might not fall out of the top 10. If he does, and the 49ers are selecting here, they’d be more than wise to make this move.
