No. 7: Tarvarius Moore, Cornerback

2018 ranking prediction: 4th

What I said:

"Moore was a ballhawk and heat-seeking missile at Southern Miss, recording 104 tackles and five interceptions in his brief college tenure, only starting his senior year and having his interception total lessened by some drops. I fully expect Moore to successfully transition to corner, given his insane athletic gifts and having a top lockdown corner in Sherman to guide him. He’s a great addition, and I think he’ll see defensive snaps as a rookie."

2018 production:

While cornerback Tarvarius Moore certainly did see defensive snaps, and even started the last two games to close out the year, his actual production is harder to ascertain.

Moore struggled to adjust to cornerback, which is understandable, as learning a new position is always a challenge, so it’s hard to be too critical of his performances when he was on the field.

Moore flashed his athletic potential but did look a bit lost at times.

2019 status:

The 49ers welcome back fellow corner Ahkello Witherspoon, who had improved drastically down the stretch before his injury.

In addition, the talented (and often injured) Jason Verrett is now on the team.

Moore will be a depth piece for 2019. But the real question is should Moore be considered a potential fit to help the 49ers safety situation? He played exceptionally well there at Southern Mississippi, and it may be the best chance for him to break through as a starter for the 49ers.
