Safety. Florida. MARCELL HARRIS. C.

Given he was a sixth-round pick, the injury flier on former Florida safety Marcell Harris wasn’t quite as drastic as the Round 4 pick used on Kentavius Street.

Harris missed his 2017 campaign with a torn Achilles, and that same injury kept the defensive back off the field for much of his rookie season with the 49ers. When Harris finally got on the field in Week 9 against the Oakland Raiders, it appeared the significant time off from football affected his technique.

Missed tackles proved to be one of Harris’ biggest setbacks early on, and he eventually finished 2018 with eight misses, which ranked fourth most among the Niners defense and was a bit of a problem, given he played in just seven games.

Yet Harris was able to shore up that aspect of his game, coming up with a number of impact tackles in a Week 14 victory over the Denver Broncos.

As long as Harris keeps up a solid tackling rapport developed late, he should remain a quality backup entering this season.
