You could make the argument the Redskins won the 2019 NFL Draft, and it would be hard to disagree.
Case in point, they got two of the draft’s most prolific prospects — Dwayne Haskins and Montez Sweat — without having to essentially do anything. Haskins’ stock falling was a bonus, of course, and Sweat’s disputed heart condition still played into Washington’s benefit, though.
Running back Bryce Love in Round 4 might have been a bit of a reach, yet he’s talented. But if there are any questions about that pickup, the Redskins’ day-three selections of Ross Pierschbacher, Kelvin Harmon and Jimmy Moreland were absolute steals.
It wasn’t long ago Harmon was considered a day-two pick, too!
Granted, Washington still has a ton of problems to figure out heading into this season. There aren’t a lot of offensive weapons for either Haskins or offseason-pickup Case Keenum to hit with any sort of reliability. And while the defensive front seven looks good, question marks still remain in the secondary.
Still, it’s hard to find much wrong with the Redskins’ draft efforts this year, which is reason enough to boost them a bit in NFL power rankings.
