There could be a theory Giants general manager Dave Gettleman is secretly trying to sabotage his squad this offseason, which has already been turbulent enough after the trade of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns.

Things got worse when Gettleman grabbed Daniel Jones at No. 6 overall — a quarterback who, on most big boards and mocks, was seen as a player likely to go no earlier than the late fringes of Round 1.

Nevertheless, Jones goes within the top 10.

New York also reached on Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, who has first-round talent, yet whose NFL Draft stock plummeted after being flagged for a banned substance late in 2018. Again, not worthy of a top-20 selection.

Mid rounders Oshane Ximines and Julian Love could surprise some people right away, which is a good thing. But they don’t come close to offsetting that No. 6 overall pick of Jones.

The Giants easily fall one spot in our NFL power rankings after such a weird, weird decision.
