It still feels so weird putting the Browns anywhere but the very bottom of NFL power rankings. But, hey… good for Cleveland. The city has waited for this long enough.
Not only are the Browns vastly improved, they’re legitimately looking at an AFC North crown and deep trip into the playoffs. We’ll have to see whether or not quarterback Baker Mayfield picks up where he left off last season — no reason to assume not — and if all those offseason pickups, including Odell Beckham Jr., come together in the right way under first-year head coach Freddie Kitchens.
The Beckham trade cost Cleveland its first-round pick, of course. Yet the Browns ended up getting a first-round talent in LSU’s Greedy Williams, who was ranked the No. 1 corner in this year’s NFL Draft not too long ago.
And in Round 2.
Williams will join an up-and-coming defense, including former Giants EDGE Olivier Vernon, who’ll pair with fellow pass-rusher Myles Garrett.
Linebacker Mack Wilson on day three was a nice find, too, helping reinforce the second level of the defense.
The Browns are fun again. When was the last time anyone has said that?
