The Dolphins’ “get” of Josh Rosen is a massive boost, considering the team was in bad position to land one of the few NFL-caliber quarterbacks in a thin draft class in 2019.
Miami’s No. 13 overall pick would have had some options, such as Dwayne Haskins, yet the trade with Arizona at least lands a quarterback with one year’s experience under his belt. And it looks as if the Dolphins are interested in giving him some added protection up front, namely by taking Wisconsin guard Michael Deiter in Round 3 — a solid move, given the long history of Badgers’ top-tier blockers.
Rosen still had a terrible rookie season in 2018, however, despite being in an awful rebuild situation in Arizona. He’ll need to overcome that sooner than later. But if veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick’s weight concerns continue into training camp, the chance to start might come sooner than later.
Without doubt, though, Clemson’s Christian Wilkins is the Dolphins’ best pick from this year’s class. He’ll provide an immediate impact and should be a player to build around for seasons to come.
At least Miami’s rebuild seems to be moving in the right direction, which still doesn’t keep the team out of the NFL power rankings cellar heading towards training camp.
