Is Deebo “Bully” Samuel a bully on the field?

One thing that both Lynch and Shanahan like in Samuel is his aggressive playing style. While going up against larger defensive players in the secondary during his college career, Samuel wasn’t afraid to get physical. Not only while contesting the ball, but also after the catch.

Samuel was asked at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine where he attained the nickname “bully”:

“I got the nickname from the movie Friday,” Samuel said. “My dad named me that. So, when I was a kid, he said I used to be a bully and take kids’ toys and stuff at a young age.”

When asked if he was still a bully, he replied, “Nah. On the field I am.”

While physicality is often attributed to larger receivers, this is a skill Samuel should hopefully be able to bring with him to the NFL.
