Round 7: Long-Snapper Brian Jennings

Selected No. 130 overall in the 2000 NFL Draft

Ah yes, the last 49ers player to be selected by the late Bill Walsh.

This one is an easy pick. Tight end, turned long-snapper Brian Jennings was easily a fan favorite over his 13-year career with San Francisco. Aside from his frequent appearances on the radio during his pro career, few would have known Jennings’ name.

And that’s the ideal long-snapper. Do this job perfectly, and no one knows who you are.

Jennings, a seventh-round selection back in 2000, saw some pretty tough times with the Niners before the team finally was good again in the early 2010s. But the team elected to part ways with him prior to 2013.

Even Jennings’ post-cut comments were noteworthy.

“I feel as though I’ve been honorably discharged from the team I love,” Jennings said in a statement (h/t the San Jose Mercury News).

This convinced me to write a thank you, of sorts, for Jennings’ services to the 49ers.

And Jennings even responded via Twitter. Pretty cool.

Honorable Mentions: C Fred Quillan (No. 175 overall), OT Trent Brown (No. 244 overall)
