49ers Are Willing to Trade Out of No. 2, However

Ten of the last 11 first-round quarterbacks selected in the NFL Draft have been acquired via a trade. The lone exception, of course, being Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns, who went No. 1 overall a year ago. No need to trade there.

If Kyler Murray falls past the Cardinals, it should create a decent whirlwind of interest from other quarterback-hungry teams looking to move up.

Potentially to the 49ers’ pick at No. 2 overall.

John Lynch appears content staying put, of course, yet he didn’t close the door on a possible move down in the draft.

“If something came to us that was too good to be true … (there are) players we’d be comfortable taking in the middle of the round, like at 10,” Lynch said, via the San Jose Mercury News‘ Cam Inman. “We’ve done our due diligence.”

Simple translation: “We are happy at No. 2, but a ‘too good to refuse deal’ could change our minds.”

Teams like the Oakland Raiders (No. 4), New York Giants (No. 6), Denver Broncos (No. 10), Cincinnati Bengals (No. 11), Miami Dolphins (No. 13) and Washington Redskins (No. 15) could all be in the market for a quarterback.

If either is willing to offer up a king’s ransom for the No. 2 overall selection, it’s a real possibility Lynch and the Niners move out of that spot.
