No. 3: Miami Dolphins

Things would be a little more difficult with the Miami Dolphins possibly engineering a trade with the 49ers in Round 1.

First of all, the Dolphins are armed with only seven picks in this year’s draft, boasting only their own selections in the first five rounds. All are mid-round picks, too, and jumping up from No. 13 overall to the Niners’ No. 2 overall pick would cost a minimum of 1,450 points, according to the draft-pick value trade chart, which is the equivalent of a seventh overall selection.

That said, Miami does have a need to upgrade its quarterback situation.

The team parted ways with its former franchise signal-caller, Ryan Tannehill, during the offseason. They’ll hope former Tampa Bay Buccaneers veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick engineers the same kind of magic he enjoyed in 2018. But with some serious weight concerns, plus Fitzpatrick’s age (he’ll turn 37 years old this season), it’s not hard to see the Dolphins wanting to find a long-term option sooner than later.

It’s possible the Dolphins merely table this need until another year, using 2019 as an essential part of what looks to be a long, long rebuild.

But if there’s a top prospect Miami is eyeing, paired with the likelihood he won’t fall past the top five picks, or so, seeing a possible lucrative deal between the 49ers and Dolphins isn’t out of the question.
