No. 1: Giants Likely to Grab a Quarterback in Round 1?

One team potentially linked to Dwayne Haskins is the New York Giants.

Picking at No. 6 overall, the Giants might be in perfect position to sit back and wait for a quarterback to come to them — the heir apparent to the veteran, Eli Manning. And if Giants general manager Dave Gettleman isn’t sold on his guy at that spot, New York can always use the selection it acquired from the Cleveland Browns in the trade for wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., No. 17 overall, to possibly grab another signal-caller.

Either way, it seems to be a very real situation for Gettleman and the Giants. At least according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who reported both Haskins and Duke’s Daniel Jones could be on New York’s radar:

So, how does this affect the 49ers?

If Kyler Murray does wind up going No. 1 overall, Haskins’ stock automatically goes back up, considering the relative shortage of quarterbacks in this year’s draft. Remember the Jets being eager to trade out of No. 3 overall? That has an effect, too, as would a potential Raiders selection of a QB at No. 4.

The Giants, if they’re all in on a player like Haskins and just hope he’ll fall, may not have the chance to grab him at No. 6 if other circumstances play out in such a way.

And it’s possible Gettleman, even after rebuffing John Lynch’s trade offer for Beckham earlier this offseason, has to make a call to the 49ers and ask if they’d be willing to make a deal.
