No. 2: Dwayne Haskins’ NFL Draft Stock Is Falling

One rumor, which could negatively alter the 49ers’ trade-down prospectus, is the notion Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins is losing stock value in the days leading up to the NFL Draft itself.

This, from With the First Pick’s Bryan Perez:

"Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins will be one of the more interesting storylines to follow in the 2019 NFL draft. Once considered the top quarterback prospect in the draft class, Haskins now looks like the favorite among the group to suffer the dreaded first-round slide."

Perez cited a report from ESPN’s Jim Nagy, which said the media hyped Haskins too much and more than what scouts and executives around the league thought of him.

There are conflicting viewpoints, though, including this one from Fox Sports’ Nick Wright and Chris Carter:

Hmm…

It’s not uncommon to see top-level prospects becoming the subject matter of stock values falling, and Haskins looks to be in that category. Perhaps some teams out there leak this information hoping it will trickle out to other teams, those drafting earlier, thereby convincing them to pass on a player like Haskins.

Where this could affect the 49ers is potentially eliminating trade-up partners, who may no longer see a player like Haskins worthy of being acquired by such means.

Smoke and mirrors, right?
