No. 4: The Jets Want to Trade Out of the No. 3 Overall Spot

Speaking of trade-down scenarios, there’s plenty of NFL rumors out there suggesting the New York Jets are highly motivated to trade out of the No. 3 overall spot in Round 1.

Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan has gone on record expressing this desire, telling the following to reporters back at the NFL’s annual meeting last March:

"We’re very open to potentially moving back from three. I wouldn’t envision us moving up in the draft. I think you can rule that one out. If we end up staying at three and taking a player, we think there are some very good players at three. But we’d definitely be interested if another team came with an offer that we felt was worthy of moving out of the spot. We would definitely consider that. Not to say we’re committed to doing it, but we’d definitely be very intrigued by that."

This is great news for the 49ers, who stand to benefit from a would-be trade-up war by quarterback-hungry teams.

Even if Kyler Murray falls out of the No. 1 spot, another team moving up to the Jets’ pick could prompt another squad to try and outbid the Jets’ trade partner for rights to Murray or someone else, especially considering the lack of top-level quarterbacking prospects in this year’s class.

Remember, 10 of the last 11 first-round quarterbacks selected in Round 1 have been acquired via a trade.

And if the Jets are looking to make a move, the Niners may be inclined to ask for even more than what New York would receive.
