Stock up: Darnell Savage, Safety, Maryland

It seems a safe bet the 49ers will be adding to their safety stocks in the draft, potentially as high as the second round.

So it only makes sense to highlight a safety prospect rocketing up to second-round consideration who fits the defense. Namely, Maryland’s Darnell Savage.

Savage has done everything possible to raise his draft stock, impressing at both the Senior Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine, and has teams thinking he could be a strong choice at the draft.

Walter Football listed him as a riser, noting:

"There is a lot to like about Savage, who is put together well with a strong build and speed. He has some natural coverage skills, being able to play free safety in the deep part of the field as well as slot cornerback. Savage has put together an impressive postseason, putting his skill set on display at both the Senior Bowl and the combine. He could end up going quickly on the second night of the 2019 NFL Draft."

The 49ers are always looking for safeties who can cover. There have been a lot of safeties bandied about as potential Niners picks, but Savage could also be a candidate on day two.
