Picks 26 to 32: Noah Fant, Tight End, Iowa

I recently wrote an article on Iowa’s Noah Fant being a no-brainer for the 49ers at No. 36. And while the overwhelmingly positive reception for the idea was something, some people pointed out that Fant won’t fall that far and would be picked in the top 20.

I hear the criticisms. While I don’t think Fant will go in the top 20, he definitely is more likely than not to be picked in the first round right around here.

What I said for Hockenson goes for Fant as well. The 49ers could carve out an exciting offensive identity with a second exciting tight end.

They could also consider

Receiver is a definite possibility, as well as corner. We’ve covered those already however.

For players not mentioned yet, versatile offensive linemen Garrett Bradbury from NC State and Erik McCoy from Texas A&M could be solid if unexciting interior blocking options.

Johnathan Abram, the talented safety from Mississippi State, has had his draft stock fall slightly leading into the draft but could also be a good pick at the end of the first round for the 49ers. Niner Noise’s Peter Panacy recently did a profile on Abram, which highlighted him as a fit for the team.

The draft ticks ever closer, and it’s impossible to predict what the 49ers are going to do with their No. 2 pick. We’ll find out on Thursday, April 25 when the 2019 NFL Draft kicks off.
