Clemson has quite a few top prospects coming out in this year’s NFL Draft, and cornerback Trayvon Mullen is another one worth watching on day two.

He’s fallen out of Round 1 consideration, where he was on the fringes at the close of the 2018 NCAA season. Participating in only a handful of NFL Scouting Combine drills might have had something to do with this, as could his relative lack of production within the college ranks.

That said, Mullen finished strong against Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship game, and that performance should go a long way in seeing where Mullen winds up being drafted.

Remember all that stuff about the 49ers needing boundary corners this offseason? Well, it still applies here.

Mullen, 6-foot-1 and 199 pounds, fits the body type San Francisco is seeking for its boundary corners. And while Mullen might not have the best pure instincts out of this year’s cornerback class, his physical abilities are more than enough to make up the difference.

If he winds up slipping into Round 3, one can be certain the Niners take a hard, hard look at making the pick.
