Prediction No. 1: 49ers Stay Put & Draft Nick Bosa, Unless the Cardinals Take Him

Going back to the list of choices John Lynch has right out of the gate in the NFL Draft, let’s break down what his wish list would be in order:

  1. Arizona Cardinals select Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, leaving the 49ers to grab Nick Bosa.
  2. If the Cardinals take Bosa, Lynch stays put and grabs Quinnen Williams.
  3. Another team drafting later in Round 1 offers up a package for the No. 2 overall pick too good to pas up.

One name off that list is Josh Allen. Remember, the 49ers attended both Bosa and Williams’ pro days, electing to visit with Allen later. It could be a ruse, of course, but the Niners don’t need to be too tricky and sneaky with the No. 2 pick.

So, why Bosa over Williams?

Taking Williams would have more of an impact on Lynch’s first pick with the 49ers, defensive end Solomon Thomas, than Bosa. And it would be hard for Lynch to give up on his first investment just yet.

So, why staying put over trading down?

Lynch and the Niners are now in year three of the rebuild and lack true superstars on the defensive side of the ball. Arguably the only ones are defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and cornerback Richard Sherman. Call it a hunch, or prediction. But now is no longer the time for Lynch to bank on later finds. He needs the best-chance impact talent now.
