As if last year was any indication, the Chiefs needed a complete reworking of their defense heading into 2019, which was kicked off by the firing of defensive coordinator Bob Sutton.

With new coordinator Steve Spagnulo now in charge, one of the first orders of business will be reinventing the pass rush, which watched Justin Houston leave for the Colts and Dee Ford head off to join the 49ers this offseason.

Replicating those players’ combined sacks from a year ago will be hard to do, and there’s an argument Kansas City would be better off grabbing some cover corners or a top safety to take over the void left by the veteran, Eric Berry.

That said, for those who believe a good pass rush can negate a questionable secondary, starting up front would make some sense here.

Boston College EDGE Zach Allen was highly productive in college, although there are going to be some question marks about his game translating well enough over to the pros. Still, there is plenty of upside to his game, and Allen would at least alleviate those crucial losses of Ford and Houston to a certain extent.
