The Redskins took a small gamble on trading down with the Vikings, hoping the Giants would pass on Daniel Jones. Since New York didn’t, however, Washington is forced to settle with another conciliatory option.

Thankfully, it’s a good one and fits a massive need while maximizing some value.

Ole Miss wide receiver D.K. Metcalf absolutely tore up the NFL Scouting Combine, showcasing elite-level speed with some of his already well-known attributes.

Sure, there are some questions about Metcalf’s agility and change-of-direction skills, which could hinder his role in head coach Jay Gruden’s offense. That said, Metcalf is an easy upgrade over wide receiver Josh Doctson, who has yet to catch on at the pro level.

Remember, the Redskins can still bank on Case Keenum being a short-term answer for the foreseeable future, so surrounding him with some potent pass-catching weapons should be just as big a priority as finding a long-term option under center.
