2019 NFL Draft: Full Round 1 mock with trades, April Fools’ version
By Peter Panacy
Boy, the Cincinnati Bengals sure hoped the Buccaneers would pass on Devin White, especially after Cincy let go of controversial linebacker Vontaze Burfict, who signed on with the Raiders shortly thereafter.
Linebacker remains a top priority for the Bengals, but it’s hard to find a spot on the defense that doesn’t need an upgrade.
So, in a deep defensive NFL Draft class, why not grab the best available player here?
In this case, it would be hard to argue with selecting Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver at No. 13 overall. There were times last year when Oliver was viewed as the top prospect heading into the 2019 draft. And while his stock has slipped, it’s not hard to find him viewed as a top-10 target, meaning the Bengals would be getting some maximum value at this particular spot.
With Oliver being a pocket-wrecking force up front, Cincinnati can shift its remaining defensive needs to later in the draft, where it will need pass-rushing help, as well as upgrades at linebacker and within the secondary.
