No. 1: Wide receiver Deebo Samuel

Personally, I would be surprised if the 49ers didn’t take a receiver with pick No. 36. And while I love  NC State’s Kelvin Harmon and have continued to advocate for him, I think it’s more likely the Niners take South Carolina’s Deebo Samuel.

He has the traits Kyle Shanahan loves in a wide receiver, they spent the week with him during the Senior Bowl, gaining valuable time to train and asses the receiver and also interviewed him during the NFL Scouting Combine.

He finished his senior year with 62 receptions for 882 yards, with 14.2 yards per reception and 11 touchdowns. Samuel shows great ability and speed to separate from defenders much like wide receiver Dante Pettis who Shanahan picked up in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

While he isn’t the big receiver the 49ers need, coming in at 5-foot-11 and 214 pounds. Samuel will aggressively contest catches and get after the ball, utilizing his quickness to gain valuable yards after the catch.

Samuel completed the NFL Scouting Combine 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds, three-cone drill in 7.03 seconds and the 20-yard shuttle in 4.14 seconds.

He is a great route runner, something Shanahan values immensely and has the reliability with his hands to hold onto the ball.
