The 49ers don’t have a fifth-round NFL Draft pick, so Round 6 is where they pick up again.

San Francisco parted ways with swing tackle Garry Gilliam earlier this offseason. And while it’s possible the team extends bigger roles to depth linemen Erik Magnuson and Shon Coleman, reinforcing some depth on the outside should also be on the team’s to-do list.

While he probably will never make his way to becoming a full-time starter, Ohio State offensive tackle Isaiah Prince would be a smart move.

Prince, 6-foot-6 and 305 pounds, moves well for a player of his size. And he’s more than capable getting out to block in space, particularly in run support, and moves laterally well enough to suggest he can handle duties in Kyle Shanahan’s outside-zone run scheme.

This should prompt some good competition for the immediate swing tackle role, perhaps pushing either Magnuson or Coleman off the roster, depending how that goes in training camp.
