No. 3: Safety Tre Boston

By now, if you’ve read enough Niner Noise articles, you’re probably familiar with the idea the 49ers should go after journeyman safety Tre Boston in NFL free agency.

Boston, who is only 26 years old, spent last season with the Arizona Cardinals on a one-year deal. Before that, he was with the Chargers after spending his first three seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

Remember everything just said about what would likely be the top-two free safety tandem of Adrian Colbert and Jimmie Ward, their concerns and prognosis going forward. Then, assume the Niners are unable to get hold of Adrian Phillips.

Boston is a nice consolation prize.

He has a nice track record of staying healthy, too, which should help matters a lot, considering San Francisco started seven different safeties over the course of 2018. Plus, he’s had a combined eight interceptions and netted 17 passes defended over the last two seasons.

The Niners recorded only two picks last year in total.

If you’re looking either for depth or a potential starting-caliber defensive back, 49ers, Boston is your guy.
