No. 3: Jaguars Send Off Jalen Ramsey in Trade Swap with the 49ers

It’s probably two years too late, but the Jacksonville Jaguars are all but guaranteed to move on from quarterback Blake Bortles this offseason. And picking at No. 7 overall, there’s a real chance they’ll miss out on one of the top three quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.

Fortunately, the Jaguars are arguably just a few pieces away from getting back into playoff contention. One of them being a quarterback, of course.

Meanwhile, the 49ers could stand to use a cornerback — one to immediately improve the position now (San Francisco’s corners recorded zero interceptions in 2018) and to find a long-term replacement for the aging veteran, Richard Sherman, at some point down the road.

Jacksonville has something to offer, too, without having to give up anything more than its own Round 1 selection: cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Late in 2018, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Jaguars would explore trading Ramsey this offseason. Ramsey, a two-time Pro Bowler, is just 24 years old and has another year remaining on his rookie contract, plus his fifth-year option for 2020.

The Niners would get a lockdown cornerback they so desperately need, while still retaining a top 10 pick to help address other areas on defense.

Meanwhile, the Jags wouldn’t have to worry about having to “wait and see” which quarterback might slip to them at No. 7 overall.
