The Washington Redskins come crashing down in our NFL power rankings, and it’s for a terrible reason.

Veteran quarterback Alex Smith’s gruesome leg injury is going to hold him out from the 2019 season, and there’s a real chance he’ll never play football again. It’s awful for him, and one can only hope for a speedy and full recovery.

On the football side of things, it certainly puts the Redskins in a bind for the upcoming season. Washington experimented with a number of quarterbacks in Smith’s absence, none exactly delivering the desired results.

Tack that on with all the dysfunction seemingly coming out of the Redskins organization on a year-to-year basis, and there’s little reason to move the team any higher in our NFL power rankings heading into the offseason.
