No. 3: The 49ers checkbook is well and truly open

According to Over The Cap, the 49ers are in the top quarter of the league for cap room still.

Currently ranked seventh, the team has well over $60 million worth of cap space. Plenty of room, even accounting for the money designated for the extension of Buckner as well as elite kicker Robbie Gould.

I won’t name names for the 49ers to chase here, that’s a whole other article, but the money is there for San Francisco to chase some names.

Will there be a big name free agent coming to the Niners? Will there be a trade for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Antonio Brown, automatically giving the 49ers an elite No. 1 wide receiver?

The money is in the bank for the Niners to improve the team as they see fit, and the exciting young team is bound to lure someone.
