5 free agents the San Francisco 49ers need to avoid in 2019
No. 3: Ezekiel Ansah
Detroit Lions defensive end Ezekiel (Ziggy) Ansah has shown flashes of pass-rush brilliance. I made a hole in one once, too. It didn’t get me any closer to my tour card.
Ansah hasn’t played a full season in the last three years and only twice in his six-year career. Some may say “if he stays healthy…”
At this point in Ansah’s career, it’s clear that injuries are part of the player he is. No team should sign him with the expectation of getting more than 10 games per season out of him. He has had two seasons with a double-digit sack count. The most recent in less than 16 games played.
The 49ers are not in a position to take gambles on players even if they may have a high ceiling. Instead, the front office should take a high-floor approach to the free-agent market and pass on Ansah.
