No. 6: Super Bowl XXIV vs. Denver Broncos

The 49ers were the defending Super Bowl champions, and had rolled through the regular season with a 14-2 record under new head coach George Seifert.

This was a matchup between two supreme quarterbacks, with the 49ers’ Joe Montana and the Broncos’ John Elway.

The Niners went on to completely dismantle the Broncos 55-10 in arguably the greatest performance in Super Bowl history. The 45-point margin was the largest in Super Bowl history and this record still stands today. It can also be argued that this 1989 San Francisco team was the greatest team of all time.

By halftime, the 49ers led 27-3 and the game was over. Montana was the essence of efficiency, going 22-of-29 for 297 yards and five touchdowns, including three to Jerry Rice.

In turn, the Niners defense held the Broncos to just 167 total yards, with Elway going just 10-of-26 for 108 yards and two interceptions.

The sheer dominance of this 49ers team that won the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl trophy is a memorable time for any Niners fan, and made this an absolute no-doubter on this list.
