It’s been a whirlwind of a season for the Washington Redskins, both on the field and within the front office. And the long-term prognosis for the team took a massive hit when quarterback Alex Smith suffered his horrendous ankle injury and subsequent complications late in the season.

Hopefully Smith is able to return and contribute at a high level, and soon. But the Redskins are faced with the very real possibility Smith never comes back at any sort of respectable level.

And after an ugly quarterbacking carousel to close out the year, one can’t overlook the necessity to draft and groom an heir under center.

Duke’s Daniel Jones might not be in the same caliber as Dwayne Haskins or Drew Lock. But he’s easily atop the next tier of quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft class.

With quarterback stock values always climbing towards draft day, don’t be shocked if Jones winds up going in Round 1 to a QB-hungry team like Washington.
