No. 3: Wide receiver Dante Pettis

Rookie wide receiver Dante Pettis has been hot and cold this season. He showed up Sunday, however, with his first career 100-yard game. He led the 49ers in receiving yards with five receptions for 129 yards. With starters Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin out for the game, Pettis stepped up and performed to a high standard.

Pettis has found the end zone two weeks in a row, adding to his touchdown from Week 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Pettis got across the line twice, for the Niners’ only touchdowns of the game.

The first coming in the third quarter with a 17-yard touchdown reception. Pettis palmed off cornerback Shaquill Griffin to scoot around to the sideline and into the end zone, assisted by a great block by fullback Kyle Juszczyk:

The second would come from a 75-yard reception early in the fourth quarter. Pettis put on the afterburners, racing away from Griffin and assisted by tight end George Kittle:

In what has been a fairly quiet year for 49ers’ receivers, Sunday’s game provided the excitement that has been lacking. Continued snaps and improvement will hopefully lead to Pettis becoming one of the 49ers’ more-reliable and go-to receivers.
