Devin Bush. 17. player. 56. . Linebacker. Michigan

Pick a position on the Bengals defense and, chances are, they could stand for an upgrade there. And while a tight end to replace the injured Tyler Eifert would be nice, Noah Fant going early makes the Bengals’ decision in Round 1 an easy one.

Get the best player on defense.

According to Mel Kiper, that player is Michigan linebacker Devin Bush, who is ranked the No. 7 overall prospect on Kiper’s latest big board.

Bush, at 5-foot-11, is a bit undersized for a traditional inside linebacker role. But there’s little questioning his playmaking abilities and his instincts. He has good enough speed to even cover slot receivers at the NFL level, and he’d be a good piece to mold a coverage-based defense around.

Currently ranked last in the league in both points allowed and all-purpose yards given up, the Bengals need playmakers on this side of the ball.

Bush is one such playmaker.
