No. 4: New York Giants

Current Starter: Eli Manning

One of those teams the Buccaneers would likely have to leapfrog is the New York Giants.

The Giants, who knocked off the 49ers back in Week 10, now sit at 3-7 after also defeating Tampa Bay last week. Remember, though, head-to-head matchups mean nothing in establishing tiebreakers in NFL Draft order. That’s done by strength of schedule.

Regardless, one can argue the Giants made a mistake by not using the No. 2 overall pick a year ago to find a replacement for the veteran, Eli Manning, instead grabbing former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley.

Now, faced with the reality of a quarterback-thin draft class, New York probably won’t be looking to make the same mistake twice.

Manning, 37 years old, has underperformed this season. This has prompted thoughts of not only benching the two-time Super Bowl winner, but certainly finding his replacement sooner than later.

And how often do teams wind up with top-five (or even top-three) NFL Draft picks?

The Giants could easily end up being the highest-selecting quarterback-needy team on draft day, which wouldn’t prompt a trade-up with the 49ers in of itself. That said, if John Lynch drums up the rumor mill about trading down with a team looking to grab Justin Herbert, it’s not hard to see why New York would want to move up to ensure it doesn’t happen.

Maybe Lynch plays the next team on this list against the Giants, the Jacksonville Jaguars.
