Wait, but the 49ers already drafted a pass-rusher in Nick Bosa. Why grab another?

First, there’s the argument teams can never have too many pass-rushers. And the Niners are desperately short of those off the edge. Second, Bosa does have that serious injury concern. If his genetics are anything like those of his brother, the Los Angeles Chargers’ Joey Bosa, there’s a strong chance the younger brother might have some difficulty staying on the field.

Taking a flier on another pass-rusher later in the draft wouldn’t be a bad idea at all. With Michigan’s Chase Winovich, San Francisco would be getting a dynamic defender capable of playing multiple positions along the defensive line.

Remember, versatility for backups is key. And D-line rotations are key too.

Winovich probably won’t reach the impressive 8.5-sack, 19-tackle-for-a-loss campaign he had back in 2017. But his line of 4.0 and 11, respectively, this season certainly isn’t bad.

By grabbing him, San Francisco ensures its depth up front isn’t compromised.
