NFL hot seat: 5 quarterbacks who could lose starting jobs in 2019
By Peter Panacy
No. 5: Case Keenum, Denver Broncos
Welp, so much for the magic now-Denver Broncos quarterback Case Keenum was supposed to bring over from the Minnesota Vikings.
Keenum’s 83.0 passer rating before Week 10 ranked 26th in the league, which was just one spot higher than that of C.J. Beathard (81.8). And by any realistic account, Keenum is looking much more like the perennial backup quarterback he used to be rather than the hero the Vikings enjoyed back in 2017.
Hence why he’s likely winding up on the NFL hot seat this offseason.
In fairness to Keenum, he has been a massive upgrade over anything the Broncos have had under center the past couple of years, including future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning’s final year in Denver.
Denver’s 104.3 The Fan’s Cecil Lammey brought up some good points about why Keenum could be on the hot seat. While this was before the Broncos’ 45-10 win on the road against the Arizona, Lammey brings up some good points worth considering:
General manager John Elway hasn’t had the best luck finding quarterbacks outside of Manning. But that won’t change the idea of him seeking an upgrade sooner than later.
So if the Broncos wind up making a move between now and the start of the 2019 season, don’t be shocked.
