Loser: Running Back Raheem Mostert

It’s so hard to say this. But Week 9, a career game for running back Raheem Mostert, came crashing to a halt when the promising upstart suffered a broken forearm in the second half after racking up 86 yards on seven carries with a touchdown — his first at the NFL level.

And it came on quite the impressive 52-yard scamper in tandem with right tackle Mike McGlinchey, who was serving as his lead blocker the entire way.

Mostert isn’t a loser in the traditional sense of this context. After all, he has now emerged as a legitimate rushing threat in Kyle Shanahan’s system. Not just a special teams ace.

Instead, Mostert’s injury is more of a disappointment — a serious setback after being able to feature his excellent speed and elusiveness to make plays in what’s turned into a depleted 49ers backfield.

Mostert has now landed on season-ending injured reserve, bringing his promising 2018 campaign to a close.
