Loser: Wide Receiver Dante Pettis

Like Trent Taylor, rookie wide receiver Dante Pettis has been beset by injury for much of 2018. A knee injury back in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers has certainly hindered his development.

But after returning to action against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8, Pettis hasn’t exactly been much of a factor on either offense or special teams. And a muffed punt last week in Arizona didn’t help matters much either.

Pettis wasn’t featured in the punt game versus Oakland. That muff surely got him demoted from that role for now, and he was given just one opportunity for a return.

More importantly, however, Pettis wasn’t viewed as an offensive weapon much at all on Thursday night either. He saw just 11 offensive snaps and didn’t impact the stat sheet.

The 49ers were certainly hoping for more from their second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. So far, it hasn’t happened during the regular season. And while the ceiling remains high, it’s looking like a lot of his growth has been stunted early on.
