No. 2: Cornerback Richard Sherman

Let’s go with one of the tried-and-true methods of NFL defenses — taking away an opponent’s best offensive weapon.

Aaron Rodgers is going to do his damage, yes. But this deep into 2018, his favorite target has been wide receiver Davante Adams, who leads the Packers with 37 receptions, 425 yards and four touchdowns.

Adams will frequently find himself lined up on the right side of Green Bay’s offensive formation, putting him directly opposite 49ers No. 1 cornerback Richard Sherman.

For your reference, Sherman hasn’t exactly been an easy target for other teams’ quarterbacks:

Sherman has been his usual self for San Francisco’s defense when healthy. He’s essentially locked down his side of the field, forcing offenses to rely on targets elsewhere. Unfortunately for the 49ers, that plan has worked fairly well.

But Sherman is one of only a few Niners defenders capable of eliminating the Packers’ best receiving threat this week.

So if the 49ers want to find a way to negate Rodgers, Adams and Green Bay’s pass attack, Sherman continuing his ways will have to be a crucial part of the equation.
