NFL power rankings: Close isn’t enough for 49ers entering Week 5
By Peter Panacy
The Jacksonville Jaguars absolutely shut down the New York Jets’ rushing attack in Week 4, forcing rookie quarterback Sam Darnold to make plays with his arm.
Darnold went 17-of-34 for 167 yards and a touchdown against zero interceptions, so the approach worked pretty well. At this point, New York lacks enough playmaking weapons to help Darnold out enough.
Especially going up against an elite defense like that of Jacksonville.
The Jets fell behind by 16 points by the half. And all those short drives over the first two quarters helped ensure the Jaguars defense would remain fresh and rested over the remainder of the contest.
Right now, New York is panning out to be what many thought it would be this season — a rebuilding squad with a fresh-faced quarterback lacking weapons around him.
