NFL power rankings: Close isn’t enough for 49ers entering Week 5
By Peter Panacy
Running back Leonard Fournette suffered an injury again. But unlike last week, the Jaguars managed to find other ways to pull off a win against an opponent laden with some offensive question marks.
That means the Jags’ elite defense, right?
Of course it does. Jacksonville eliminated any threat the Jets had on the ground, holding New York to a mere 2.4-yard average on 14 carries. That forced Sam Darnold to take chances through the air, which didn’t exactly result in much against one of the best secondaries in the NFL right now.
Unlike last week, however, the Jaguars were able to muster up some of their own offense — needed too, especially with Fournette going out.
Quarterback Blake Bortles was solid, going 29-of-38 for nearly 400 yards, two touchdowns against one interception. Not the most perfect day, but the Jaguars would happily take that kind of performance given the circumstances.
Oh, and hello, Dede Westbrook and Donte Moncrief. They each had 100-plus yard games too.
