Whoa! That’s a notable NFL power rankings drop, isn’t it?

OK, so the Eagles are about as poised to make yet another Super Bowl run after shocking the NFL world last year by upsetting the Patriots and pulling off an inconceivable victory with game MVP Nick Foles under center.

Hollywood couldn’t have written a better story.

The problem, however, is Foles is still pegged as Philadelphia’s Week 1 starter. Carson Wentz, who tore his ACL and LCL late last season, still hasn’t been cleared for contact and remains questionable in advance of Week 1. Even if he is cleared, Wentz will need to shake off a lot of rust.

This wouldn’t be so bad if Foles had played well during his preseason snaps. But he’s looked pretty rough. So has the rest of Philly’s offense, which was a prime reason behind the success head coach Doug Pederson and Co. enjoyed last year.

Again, preseason narratives. But a 5-0 loss to the Browns in Week 3 of the preseason? C’mon, man.

It’s a reality the Eagles could end up going through one of those Super Bowl-winning hangovers many teams experience after pulling off such a championship. At the same time, one shouldn’t bank on the thought Philadelphia completely loses its way either.

So Philly dropped a few spots. The team is still in the top five. Relax.
